As our nation's birthday approaches, I realize that I don't have a Star-Spangled Banner to display on our front porch. Now that I think of it, we don't even have a flag pole to put it on. I better get moving on this quickly because I'm sure they get sold out during this time of year.
Our plan is to have a picnic in the local park and watch the fireworks. I guess that the whole idea of a picnic basket is outdated, so I better look for a picnic cooler for the cold stuff. I've also come to
realize that I'm not as nimble as I used to be; the back gets sore, the knees always complain, and I just can't sit on the ground anymore. The solution is to splurge for some picnic chairs and a picnic table, and to put the old picnic blanket in the same place the basket is going- the back of the attic.
The one thing I really need to be careful about is the heat. Is it only me, or is this year hotter than last? Actually, I say this every year, so don't take me too seriously. But I do want to avoid keeping Junior out under the sun too long, which is also a good excuse for me to use with my wife to get home early and watch a ball game.
